Product Description

The 722.6, badged 5G-Tronic, was a genuine milestone: Mercedes' first fully electronically controlled automatic, launching behind the W140 S-Class V8. It earned its keep well beyond that debut. Even after the more complex 7G-Tronic arrived, Mercedes kept the 722.6 in production for years because of its torque capacity and cost effectiveness, backing turbocharged V8 and V12 engines all the way up to the SL65 AMG and the SLR McLaren. Once early production issues were sorted out, it built a reputation as one of Mercedes' most durable automatics, period.

Weistec's EGS52 TCU upgrade recalibrates that factory 5-speed controller in software. It's written to the same engineering standard Mercedes applied to its own EGS52 calibration, working within the 722.6's proven mechanical limits to draw more from a unit that's already earned its stripes for toughness. Every built-in protection against slip and thermal overload stays exactly where the factory put it, and what comes out the other side is a genuinely tough transmission operating on another level.

Complete The Upgrade

An ECU tune alone won't remove all factory limits or fix how power reaches the ground. Add these to round out the upgrade with no limitations.

What is a CPC module?

The CPC (Central Powertrain Control) is a separate control unit that manages things like the active exhaust valves, radiator fan, intercooler pumps, and speed limiter. On many newer Mercedes-Benz vehicles, it also houses torque limiters that can hold back an ECU tune from reaching its full potential.

What is a TCU tune?

A TCU (transmission control unit) tune delivers faster, firmer shifts with higher line pressure, reducing clutch slip and increasing the transmission's torque capacity. It's a worthwhile upgrade on its own, or paired with an ECU tune for a fully sorted powertrain.

Good to Know

  • This is a reflash of your original module, not a stand-alone unit.
  • Power gains vary by vehicle, modifications, fuel, and operating conditions (ambient temperature, altitude, etc.).
  • New or upgraded spark plugs are always recommended when tuning.
  • Product may not be emissions compliant. Check local laws prior to installation.
  • Always use a battery charger during programming.
