    Model – Manufacturers use the same engine in multiple model vehicles and often times they are in a different state of tune, for example: 2008 C63 and a 2008 CLK Black Series.  Both have the same engine, but the C63 has 451hp while the CLK63 has 500hp.  Naturally the C63 will show more gains as it starts at a lower level.

    Model Year – Similar to above, as time progresses, Manufacturers tend to slightly increase power output via software from one year to the next or offer “Performance Packages” with increased power.  The engines remain largely unaltered and as a result, final tuned output remains the same, while the gains are lower as the starting point is now higher.

    Fuel – Fuel quality is HIGHLY important with performance vehicles.  Low quality and/or low octane fuel will greatly impact engine output and potentially even engine health.  Top tier brand premium fuels should always be used to achieve the best results possible.

    Drivetrain – All wheel drive has higher drivetrain losses than rear wheel drive.  This results in lower numbers when testing on a chassis dyno.  Wheel/tire size and weight will also impact chassis dyno results

    Weather/Conditions – Temperature, humidity, altitude, and air density all impact engine performance.  Heat, high humidity, and thin air will all work towards reducing engine output

    Engine Health – Higher miles tends to result in increased build up and lower compression which can and will impact engine output.  Properly maintained engines will have better performance than abused or neglected engines.

    Supporting modifications – The highest power levels require supporting modifications.  Depending on the engine, this could mean forged internals, built transmission, upgraded fuel system, 110+ octane race fuel, etc.

Comprehensive Turbo Upgrade

The Weistec Engineering M177 / M178 W.4 Turbo Upgrade is the key to making the most power with the M177 and M178 engines without compromise in drivability or reliability.

The turbo upgrade, as with all W.4 Upgrades, is a comprehensive turbo upgrade that completely replaces the factory turbocharges. The new turbochargers are ball bearing units with CNC machined billet aluminum compressor wheels rated much higher than the stock units. The Weistec compressor covers provide mounting for the OEM wastegate actuators and is compatible with the stock charge piping. A 3 inch anti-surge inlet is standard to provide unrestricted flow to the compressor.

The Weistec Turbine Housings have V-Band inlets, to allow for a cleaner and easier install, and turbine outlets that not only match the factory location, also have the same flange design to use the same Weistec Downpipes and Midpipes as the stock turbos.

This is most important supporting upgrade. Tuning your Engine Control Unit (ECU) is what brings all your performance upgrades together. It recalibrates the engine's brain, optimizing fuel, boost, timing, and more to work seamlessly with your new performance upgrades. Without it, the ECU will still try to run the engine like it's stock, which can limit power, cause drivability issues, or even damage components. ECU tuning can be done by your local trusted tuner or you can contact us to see available tuning options.

Weistec CPC Module


(required for newer models)

The Computer Powertrain Control (CPC) Module can found in modern Mercedes vehicles. It is home to several torque limiters that used to be solely in the ECU. The Weistec CPC module is a complete replacement for the factory CPC module and it removes all torque limiters, allowing the engine to produce maximum power without restrictions. In general, 2019+ Mercedes vehicles have the CPC module, but some older models with the 9G-Tronic transmission may also have it.
