Auto Start-Stop Removal

Auto Start-Stop Removal

On most vehicles equipped with a Start-Stop system, we can disable it as part of your ECU tune, at no additional charge. Here is what the system does and how to request it be turned off.

What is a start-stop system

Start-stop systems were implemented on vehicles as an attempt to improve fuel economy and reduce overall emissions by shutting the engine off when the vehicle is stopped at a red light or in a traffic jam.

The engine shutting off when coming to a stop and then starting up again immediately is often jarring for drivers. Many vehicles with this system have noticeable delays when restarting the engine after the driver wants to move again. Some even let the AC system stop cooling, which makes the car uncomfortable to drive in summer months. In addition to the compromised comfort, repeatedly stopping and starting the engine increases wear and tear on the engine and starter system.

Drivers often never notice the claimed benefits of a start-stop system. Many people automatically disable the system right after they get in the car and start the engine.

Most vehicles that are equipped with a Start-Stop system can have the system disabled via ECU tuning.

ECU tune or CPC module?

On most vehicles, disabling Auto Start-Stop is handled entirely within the ECU tune. On some newer Mercedes-Benz platforms, the Start-Stop system is instead controlled by the CPC (Central Powertrain Control) module, so removing it requires our CPC Module alongside the ECU tune. Your individual tune page will tell you which applies to your vehicle.

How to request it

If you would like us to disable the start-stop system when purchasing a tune, simply make the request. If it is possible for your specific vehicle, we will do it at no extra charge. If you are tuning with a Cypher+, request it directly in the app when requesting your tune. If you are mailing in your ECU, mark it on the calibration request form when you submit your vehicle.
