Burble & Pops Tuning Option
On select vehicles, you can add or increase exhaust pops and burbles as part of your ECU tune, at no additional charge. Here is what it does, how it behaves on your specific car, and what to know before requesting it.
What it does
The burble/pops option adds (or increases) the crackling and popping sound from your exhaust during deceleration. This happens by injecting a small amount of fuel and retarding ignition timing as you come off the throttle. That fuel ignites in the exhaust while the valves are still open, producing the pops you hear.
If your car already has factory pops
Vehicles that come with pops/burble from the factory will see it become louder and more pronounced than stock. This option builds on what is already there rather than replacing it.
Driving mode availability
On later-model BMW, Audi, Lamborghini, and Porsche vehicles, this can be set to Sport modes only or across all drive modes. On Mercedes and McLaren, it is active in all modes. On older vehicles with less capable ECUs, precise control is not possible, and you may notice it affecting light-throttle drivability.
Intensity levels
Two options are available: Normal/Mild and Aggressive.
Our Recommendation
Go with Normal/Mild. In our experience, less is more here. Customers frequently request the Aggressive setting up front and come back shortly after asking to have it toned down or removed once the novelty wears off.
Can it be changed later?
Yes, but it requires purchasing an additional companion tune file at additional cost. If you are on a Cypher+ tool, that second file lets you swap back and forth between your normal tune and your burble tune whenever you would like, right from the app.
A Note on Aggressive Settings
Aggressive pops/burble can affect drivability and significantly accelerates wear on spark plugs, exhaust valves, and turbochargers. Only choose this setting if you are comfortable accepting that added wear. Weistec is not responsible for any damage resulting from an aggressive pops/burble configuration.
How to request it
If you are tuning with a Cypher+, select the burble option directly in the app when requesting your tune. If you are mailing in your ECU, mark it on the tune request form when you submit your vehicle.
